Only a few days left before we stack up our soundsystem at Durrumbul hall for a 4'20 sound takeover! After a year of experimentation developing our rig we are finally ready to deliver a dub club style session to the Byron Shire, build upon the foundations of our notorious reggae night and honour the rich multicultural lineage of the underground music scene in the area. To celebrate the return of our regular dances we are linking up some of our finest selectors, musicians and performers to showcase a 'non-traditional' music event inspired by Reggae, Dub, Dancehall, Afrobeat, Roots and Bass Heavy music! The event will start with a dancehall/ Caribbean dance workshop, The session will be a bit of dancehall, bit of soca, a Caribbean mashup of moves to take to the dancefloor, led by Mina of NRG Dance crew. True to its name (Neva Rest yuh Groove) Mina brings endless energy and high vibes whenever the music plays. As well as teaching regularly in Byron Bay, you'll find her performing with the crew at Casa Luna, Island Vibes Festival, and most places you'll find the 420 sound system. Make sure to heck out NRG's performance later in the night!
For this session we are excited to host Sky Eater band with an extended line up including Aya Trumpet and MsEleneous for a full power horn section alongside Chel's multi-instrumental loops and TkBassDread's beastly beats, bass and dubs. With a sound inspired by UK soundsystem culture you can expect a journey through trip-hop, dub and jungle with uplifting melodies, heavy basslines and live dub improvisation. For the dj selections we are linking up with Victor Lopes who's been one of the most active vinyl selectors in the Gold Coast scene, from reggae music to brazilian roots and funk, Victor will be in charge of 100% vinyl selections to bring the vibe with tunes from the wax to the needle and straight in your chest!
King Krazy, the dancehall veteran of the area, been spinning and delivering some of the biggest dancehall sessions alongside The 4'20' Sound crew for many years, from old school to new school his show gets the dance floor HOT everytime!
The 4'20' Sound & SK Simeon are loaded up with an artillery of dubplates and lyrics, this duo have been blazing dance floors up and down the coast with their high energy show for the last 6 years. SK's infectious afro-dancehall style is reaching out to every corner of the world, with non stop production and releases he has been going viral amongst the new generation of booty shaking influencers. Oren Selecta will be spinning a wide variety of original productions, dub plates and special cuts from the past 8 years of international collaboration to accompany SK's powerful, interactive performance.
The 4'20' Sound is rising up amongst the Australian soundsystem scene with appearances at Earth Frequency, Island vibe and Heavy Congress. We are looking forward to sharing music and culture with the Byron Shire and continuing to support independent community events.
